Is there anyone out there who likes Cat in the Hat: A Michael Myers Movie, except for the inevitable couple of quoted flacks in the ads? Because every review I’ve seen (and not just these, but also this and this) make it sound not only like it stinks on ice, but it does so with a nasty gleam in its fetid eye. Even Roger Ebert, who manages to avoid getting horribly offended by this travesty of a childhood memory, sounds profoundly disappointed.
Biggest. Stinker. Ever.

And yet, it’s selling huge numbers. Parents must be desperate for child-fare at the movies. I guess Brother Bear didn’t cut it.
I think that says as much about how little people read reviews as anything else.
FWIW, Kitten liekd Brother Bear, though it was a little scary at times. She’s enjoyed even more playing with her BK Kids Meal BB Moose and Bear.
Young Miss Laura loved Brother Bear, I think partly because she went with her half-brother, whom we all met for the first time (other than Liz) this past summer.
We just got her Finding Nemo and have Lion King waiting for Christmas. (Unfortunately Nemo might have a glitch–anybody else noticed a “hiccough” in Chapter 24 of the widescreen version?).
As for that Cat, I’m sure the Good Dr. is spinning in his grave, alas.
I think this dorktower cartoon sums it up the best:

Which is, um, why I linked to it in the original post (the second “this”).
But, yeah, I agree with you.
I don’t know if it’s the makeup, or Myers, or both, but the movie Cat just looks mean and pinched and unpleasant. The book Cat isn’t a model citizen, but he’s at least having good clean (so to speak) fun.
Rrg. Must … not … let … blood pressure … rise …
Bah, missed that one. Sorry. Haven’t seen it, decided I didn’t want to waste my 3 movies a year on a Mike Myers movie.
