Tripping to Faerie

The flight to SoCal was pretty straightforward. We were flying Frontier, direct to John Wayne. The flight was delayed an hour due to the plane being late coming in. Ah, well.

Two signficant differences from the last time we did this, in June:

First off, Katherine is fully potty-trained. While I was never one of those, “My God, this is horrible” sorts regarding diapers and the like, it is incredibly convenient not to have to travel with a diaper bag. Incredibly convenient.

Second off, no car seat was necessary. Well, she needs her booster seat, but that disassembles and packs without much trouble (we did bring the base onto the plane, but were informed it wasn’t approved, so it went up in the overhead). Again, not that huge a thing, but wildly convenient — especially since it means Katherine could sit/play/eat/sleep between us, sharing the wealth, so to speak.

Margie packed the bags to near overflow with gifts and the like (due to weight of items being shipped, not bulk). In fact, there was overflow from the two big bags into a smaller one, to get them below the magic 50 lb. mark. Which she did, just barely (the two together weighed in at 98.5 lbs.). Fortunately, we didn’t need to bring much out in the way of clothes, since we camp out at the in-laws so often, we just keep a supply there. Kitten, of course, requires fresh clothes (of the then-current size) nearly each trip.

Speaking of who, she sacked out mid-flight, which was also kind of nice.

We were met at SNA by my folks and Margie’s, went back to the Ks, and ate a nice dinner, and seriously hit the sack.

And, this morning, figuring if I can’t forestall the Apocalypse, I might as well join it, I ordered DSL service for the in-laws. Which will be very nice, as I suddenly find myself utterly intolerant of dial-up speeds … 🙂

  1. Hey! You’re in my neck of the woods! I’m just off of downtown LA. While I know you flew into Orange County, it’s kinda within striking distance. Wanna meet up for dinner (or something)?

Got family in town Dec 24-31, though, so the timing might not work.

  2. Dinner? On Frontier? Surely you jest (assuming your name is Shirley …)

I was referring to sharing the wealth of Kitten between Margie and me. And the “Get your hands off that/stop kicking the table/settle down!” wealth, too.

Ian, sounds like it could be fun, but let me get back to you. I’ve already got one person lined up in the gotta-visit queue, and that assumes that my schedule isn’t already automagically booked up. :-O

  3. And, of course, I’m lined up in the never-visit queue…

    :-\

Never mind me. I always get cranky around my birthday.

[I’m not relly upset. I know how busy you are whenever you come to… uh, “Faerie.”]

  4. Really? For true? I had no idea!

I feel all warm and fuzzy now! (And for once, I’m not being sarcastic!)

I’m not holding my breath, though. I know it’s not terribly convenient.

If you ever do make it out here, though, I plan to teach you to play HeroClix. (All my opponents have moved away or quit playing. sob)
