Notes from the day …

  • We’re meeting at the boss’s house, which is both nice of him, and useful. We’re out of the office, so there’s minimal temptation to be dragged off into other discussions with other people. Very productive. That he has a wireless network in his house is pretty keen, too.
  • We went out to lunch at Presidente Restaurant, a very tasty Mexican place here in Valencia. We all ended up with burritos the size of small footballs, which sort of put us off of dinner this evening — which, ironically, means I actually made my calorie target today, with room to spare.

  • Lots of talk about procedure — which is good, because tracking projects via our processes has been less than easy. And I’m making my own contribution with notations in the big Microsoft Project Plan to help us understand stuff when we go back to actually using the stuff next Monday.

  • A central part of the meeting today was going over the result of the confab of the boss and the CIO and his other directions. Lots of interesting stuff, including some (promised-to-be-positive but so-far-secret) org changes to come. Anyhow, it was all very positive-sounding, lots of discussion of improved communication, promotion of collegiality, expections of professionalism by managers like us.

And then came the bombshell …

HOLY CRAP! I HAVE TO WEAR A FRELLING TIE FROM NOW ON? EVEN ON FRELLING FRIDAYS? SON OF A —

I guess that’s why they pay me the big bucks.

Hell …
