Note to self:

Hissing from the second floor bathroom window at a cute trio of raccoons waddling atop the side yard fence will cause them to hesitate for a moment the first time, but will not frighten them off.

A squirt bottle of window cleaner, however, seems to do the job.

  1. Well you know Doyce, Justin and I are going out of town for 4 days and you could be the proud owners of two very loving and raccoon unfriendly dogs. I have it on good authority that they deter raccoons better than hissing or windex :).

  2. When I lived in Texas, I had a squirrel chew its way into my attic. I spotted the hole, and was standing on a ladder examining it when the little bugger stuck his head out. I went back in and got a bottle of some kind of ammonia-based cleaner. I stood on the ladder for another few minutes until the little bugger stuck his head out again. I squirted him good. Then I went up into the attic to see the damage from the inside. I found squirrel pellets all over the place, but I think I scared the squirrel out. I then plugged the hole and had it repaired the next day. I’m all in favor of the use of cleaning products to deter nuisance animals!
