It can be politically dangerous to suggest that something put forward by your boss needs further work and refinement, and is, in fact, sort of sloppy in a “just growed” way.
It can be politically dangerous to organize a phonecon of your peers to discuss that, with an idea toward providing back a revised document, even if your boss states that he wants feedback and wants his direct reports to work independently.
It can be politically dangerous if the boss decides that he wants to sit in on the phonecon, too.
But it’s really sweet when, in the face of all that, not only does he let you take the lead on the call, but works along with the group in changing his document, and wraps things up by saying, “This was a useful call, thanks.”
