Slate has put together a “Are you Red State material or Blue State material” quiz that … well, for me at least, is moderately accurate.

Actually, I find the very terms “red state/blue state” fascinating. Growing up, the GOP was always “blue” and the Dems (shakes of “pinkoism” or something?) were always “red,” at least on the big Presidential Election Return Boards the networks would run. I’m not sure when that flipped around, but it did for just the election that folks decided showed such a divide, and it seems likely that the term will stick around for a while.
Anyway, offered for your amusement.

Very red…
Really? Huh. So much for that test. 🙂
Me too. Very red. I found that amusing. Apparently, I’m penalized for liking BBQ and Country music.
Where the quiz fails is testing what you know and where you live rather than what you believe. Living near a Wal-Mart Super Center and not near public transporation doesn’t make you red. Nor does knowing about the Long Island Railroad because of the murder that happened on it make you blue. I didn’t buy any of the videos, either.
Well…Just like the first IQ tests. If you arn’t from NYC you’ll score very low.
Glad to find someone else who noticed the red state/blue state shift. I too can remember watching the 1976 election returns on TV, and all of the Democrat-winning states were red, indicating a solid South for Carter. I have a lot of trouble with the colors reversed. Traditionally (sub-consciously?) the color red has been considered revolutionary while blue has been considered conservative.
Yup. If I were conspiracy-minded, I might wonder about that …
