As we were watching swimming the other evening, Stan commented how sad the situation of the South Korean swimmer was, in the near lane, lagging badly behind the others in the pool.
Which immediately, upon being voiced, made us realize that she was (a) the best fricking swimmer in her entire country, (b) was one of the 12 (or however many it is) best national qualifiers for this event in the world, (c) could thus swim with at least one arm tied behind her back and still beat either of us, and (d) was, in the end, only a few seconds behind the gold medal winner in the event.
These people are amazing, and even the ones who goof, fall short, or are ranking just behind the others, deserve our admiration (if not awe) for their talent and achievement in just being there.
