A “Christ Centered Game Review” of the new Doom 3 game:

There hasn’t been a game that I would more than happily throw away after I just purchased it for fifty-five dollars than this one. The graphics are superb and sound is just down right awesome, but nothing will make up for the complete satanic feel and exposure this game will bring. As a twenty-one year old I have to say I was freaked out, disturbed, and horrified by Doom III’s content. I can’t imagine what a thirteen year old would feel like. After hours of exposure to this game, I could see a child’s attitude and personality change because of this game. I would have displayed more images but due to the graphic and satanic nature of this game I just couldn’t show it. Stay far away from Doom III it has no value to it at all. I would highly recommend that anyone who professes themselves to be Christians, to NOT PLAY THIS GAME.

Because, of course, the original Doom (played and enjoyed by my dad as well as myself) is a gentle romp through calm, quiet pastures, no evil or demonic or nasty or violent bits to be found …

(Almost as amusing as the review is the comment battles that follow it, as various folks try to establish their creds as “good Christians” while arguing for or against the game …)

To say that “Those who find this sort of thing disturbing will be disturbed by this kind of thing” seems flip, but anyone expecting to pick up a copy of Doom 3 and not find some creepy violence and threatening demonic critters seems to be ill-prepared to be a video game reviewer. Beyond which, I must ask whether (a) the reviewer noticed the game’s (voluntary) rating is 17+ (Mature), and, (b) if the reviewer was feeling so “incredibly slimed” by the game, why he insisted on playing it through all the way to the end …

As for me, the only two things that worry me about the game are the cost and whether it will run on my notebook …

  1. It’s virtually unplayable on my Athlon 1.15 Gh with a GeForce 4.

    >sigh

Where do I come up with the bucks for a new MB/CPU/RAM setup?
