Here’s a service to convert your cassettes to CD or MP3 for cheap. Cool beans, and a good review.
Filing that away for future reference, I am.

Griffin makes a little widget called the iMic which is a USB audio interface. They say it works with both Mac and PC. Among other features, it can be used to convert records and tapes to digital. They say you don’t need any special software, but then they recommend a few software packages, so I’m not sure what functions you can accomplish without any additional software. The device itself is only about $40 at list price.
Now how about converting LP’s to digital…yep, we still have a pile of records that we’ve yet to find in CD format!!! No record player though!
For work what I’d love to have is a “boombox” (yes, I will now bite my tongue) that plays MP3 files I could download into it via my PC. Sort of like an iPod, but not shirt-pocket sized, with decent (but small) speakers. I can’t wear headphones at work, but I can listen to music. I’d rather carry everything in one package than buy a CD player and truck CD’s back and forth (no permanent location, so I can’t leave CD’s there when I go home).
You dream of a Tivo, I dream of audio…
Oops! For some reason I did not see the first message when I commented…I’ll have to look for that “iMic” (but my portable MP3 player is still sought, especially if it could be combined with an AM/FM/SW1/SW2 receiver!).
Actually, I wish my car stereo CD player handled MP3s. I know that sort of thing is available — but I don’t have it. 🙂
