I really don’t expect this story — possible “contact” signals received via the SETI project — to pan out.
But, damn, it would be interesting if it did. Both per se, and to see the reactions that people had to it.

I’ve already seen stories that quote a SETI at Home spokesperson as saying that the story is wrong, and they haven’t found anything.
In fact, I saw the denials before I ever heard the rumor. It’s kind of sad and wierd ’cause I didn’t even get that euphoric moment when I wondered if it might reallly be true. Instead, I went straight to disappointment without passing euphoria.
I’ve heard enough stories like this (though not SETI-related) to automatically assume that it wasn’t going to be the case. Which is also, perhaps, kind of sad.
