… but the Lord Jesus Christ doesn’t!
Here is a thought. What is rock music?
Answer: It is music for lost hellbound sinners. Its purpose is to blind the person’s heart to his need for salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rock music offers temporal and sinful pleasure as part of the blinding process. It is filled with fornication, drug use, blasphemy against God, love of pleasure, disrespect, and rebellion. Rock music has also been designed by Satan to be more addictive than a drug. People who are addicted just cannot get enough of it. There is also a constant “thirst” for new sounds or tunes. This is why many rock addicts have hundreds or thousands of “artists” recordings. Hellbound sinners do not have much time here on earth in light of eternity. They may live up to 70 or so years. In that time they grab whatever joys and pleasures possible before dying and perishing in hell. Rock music is one form of pleasure designed by Satan to keep people blindly walking down the broad road that leads to the lake of fire!
There’s more. Lots more. Makes one feel all warm inside (which is doubtless a forewarning of the Lake of Fire). Granted, I think a lot of popular music is an “abomination,” but …

Actually, this comment I think goes with this post (but there’s certainly a thematic link 🙂 ).
That said, yeah, certainly some of these items are a bit of a stretch. 🙂 Which is part and parcel of why every time has had folks identifying it as the End Times.
Heck, perhaps that’s why Jesus was so vague about the end times in his limited proclamations on it. After all, if you’re not sure when it will be, maybe you really will focus on the here-and-now and on being a good scout, rather than waiting for the last moment. (Of John’s poetry in Revelations, the attempt to draw out concrete worldly predictions from it seems as fruitless as trying to determine how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.)

I wonder what those folks think of “Christian Rock”? Or U2?
The comment about addiction reminds me of a paper on Plato that I did in grad school. Plato seems to me to have thought that poetry was psychoactive, like a drug. In the Republic, I believe he forbids any poets from his ideal city because no good could come from allowing their psychoactive products in the city. Maybe these folks would like to denigrate poetry too!
Language certainly has power to influence people’s emotional state and their actions, but I’d say there’s no more such power in Rock and Roll or poetry than there is in the Bible. I’d even be willing to bet that the Bible is just as addictive as Rock and Roll is!

Most such folk consider Christian Rock to be an oxymoron. (Also known as, “‘Tain’t Godly music if it isn’t in the 1928 Hymnal” argument.)
