2004 Lists, First of What Will No Doubt Be a Series

The end of the year is always a time for Lists of the Greatest/Worst/Most/Etc. in various categories.

First one I’ve run across that stuck with me: Top Hoaxes of 2004. What’s interesting is that I’d not heard of at least one of them (the Bhopal Hoax).

Part of the problem with the list (which you get to vote on) is how you define a Top Hoax. The best publicized (Bush Voter IQs)? The one with the most effect (Rathergate)? The most elegant or finely crafted (Kaufman)? The number of times you’ve had to forward the appropriate Snopes page to someone to debunk it (Home Computer)?

At any rate, what will be interesting is how many of these are remembered in five years. Perhaps that will be the true test of the Top Hoax.
