Despite it being Sunday, 2 January, we had a full but not overbooked flight on Frontier from SNA to DEN. Indeed, they had the shortest counter lines, the friendliest service, and the quickest turn-around (balancing the jet that was late) of the trip.
We were expecting — and almost hoping — for bump offers. Indeed, the America West flight to Phoenix departing from the gate in front of us was offering $500 bumps, plus a shuttle bus over to Long Beach Airport and a lunch voucher. No such “luck” on our flight.
The inflight DirecTV was showing many fun channels, including Boomerang. Alas, it flipped over to “pay” mode once we were in the air, and just as I was getting into Thundarr the Barbarian.
Flew home without a hitch, and Jackie picked us up at the airport, bless’er. Two carts full of big bags. We drove home, Katherine made little gasping noises about the New Bicycle Santa Left Her (“I got everything I wanted!”), and we did the test drive on same (preserved on videotape).
It was only about 3 or so by then, so we invited the Testerfolk over to dinner to exchange notes (i.e., for Doyce to be able to show me what all the fuss about City of Heroes is). At which point Margie sent me to the store to get some cream, and …
… um, the Subaru wouldn’t start. Like, dead, dead, dead.
We jumped it off the van, and let it run for some time, but it wouldn’t turn back over again. So I need to find out if the battery is covered by warranty and get it fixed sometime over the next few days.
I also have to get my drivers license renewed in the next couple of days (thanks, Margie, for noting that). Last time it came due, I didn’t notice (since they don’t, like, send you a notification of it or anything), and didn’t discover it until I was in Salt Lake City on business and they wouldn’t rent me a car.
And now … back to the grind.
>many fun channels, including Boomerang
A day earlier and you could have watched their Hadji New Year marathon, a follow-up to the Very Jonny Questmas marathon. Unfortunately, I tuned in to see the exact same episodes I had seen one week earlier. grumble
>all the fuss about City of Heroes
If I could afford an MMO, this would be it. My friend at work is playing World of Warcraft, and deliberately left the strategy guide lying around. “Hah! The bait has been taken,” said he, seeing me perusing it. Too bad I’m broke these days.
>I also have to get my drivers license renewed
That’s right! I just had a birthday two weeks ago, so that means yours is only a few days away! Let me be the first to say “Hippo birdy two ewes”! (You’re a Sandra Boynton fan, right? I probably gave you that card 20 years ago. I still laugh just thinking about it.) (Wow! 115 listings of her stuff on ebay!
We have several Boynton books for Katherine, and find her “Mom’s Calendar” to be a great family organizer.
As for CoH — yeah, that would probably be my crack of choice. I just don’t have enough hours in the day *now*, let alone with that thrown in.
Glad your trip home was uneventful; mine was too. After I got home I realized that I was tired so I rested on the couch… for the rest of the day! Too much fun.
I suggest that you have someone put your battery on a charger overnight. There’s a chance the battery is still ok but was so drained that your car didn’t recharge it sufficiently in the time you left it running. I won’t bore you with the details, but that’s basically what happened to me.
This way of doing things will be cheaper than buying a new battery (assuming that it’s not a warryanty item), and it helps rule out the possibility that your alternator is dead rather than the battery. If the battery accepts a charge, then you should have the alternator checked out.
Batteries that are not used in cold weather for an extended period tend to lose voltage, but it doesn’t normally ruin a battery that’s in good condition.
Well, we shuttled it to the Subaru shop this afternoon (didn’t think of trying a charger), so we’ll see what happens. It was due for its tune-up, anyway.
Had a couple of people say that the batteries in new cars these days, if they lose their charge, tend to not be recoverable. No idea. We’ll see.
