It’s the “Party Shuffle” meme (10 random songs via the Party Shuffle control from one’s iTunes or other MP3 library system).
Today’s winners:
- “Dot’s Song” (on the Animaniacs Variety Pack)
- “Joy to the World” (perf. by the Yuletide Lounge Band, on The Gift)
- “Hary Janos Suite” (by Kodaly, perf. by Ormandy and the Philadelphia, on Classics for Kids)
- “You Only Live Twice” (by Barry and Bricuse, perf. by Nancy Sinatra, on The Best of James Bond, 30th Anniv. Collection)
- “We Got the Beat” (by the Go-Go’s on Beauty and the Beast)
- “The Home Stretch” (by Louden Wainwright III, on So Damn Happy)
- “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah” (by Allan Sherman, on the Dr Demento 20th Anniversay Album)

- “Words of Love” (by the Mamas and the Papas, on All the Leaves are Brown)
- “You’ve Got a Way” (by Shania Twain, on Come On Over)
- “Fish” (on Television’s Greatest Hits VI)
Hmmm. No more than mildly embarrassing. And fairly representative, at that.
1. Breeze by Kevin Eubanks, from The Searcher

9. Wherever You Go by Pat Metheny Group, from Speaking Of Now
10. West Side Nights by Synergy, from Metropolitan Suite
There are lots more artists in my library. I don’t know why the party shuffle picked two by Bela Fleck, Talking Heads, and Pat Metheney. I do have several albums by each of those artists, but I didn’t think I had so many that they would come up twice in a random list.

I set my 100-CD changer on random, and the first 10 hits were these:

09. Burning Homestead by John Williams (Star Wars: Episode IV–A New Hope)
10. Star Trek Main Title by Alexander Courage (Star Trek: The Cage & Where No Man Has Gone Before)
Notice a pattern here?
Yeah … I’m a lot more likely to listen to your CD selection than Amanda or Dave’s … 🙂
I’m surprised Star Wars turned up more than Star Trek, as there are only 8 SW CDs in there, versus 22 ST. And two of the 4 CDs from the Disney set are represented, but only one Hitchcock, and none of the James Bond soundtracks. Well, that’s probability for you!
You’d probably like 2, 6, 7 and 8 Dave.
