  1. US Bank tellers and managers are liars and thieves!!! I
Have been banking with US bank for more than 4 years. We opened our account in WI and had no problems. We we moved to AZ it was another story.
About a year ago my husband had made a mistake in our check book register and we had an overdraft. It was the first time this had happened to us so he called our local branch and Nathan the branch manager said he would sign us up for “overdraft protection.” The way the protection was suppose to work is if an overdraft happened the money would automatically transfer from our saving account into our checking. Yeah right!
Well, 4th of July week was stessful, our car broke down, my husband had his CFI check ride (he is studying to be a pilot), and so on….
When we paid for the car to get fixed we did not transfer the funds from our saving into our checking and we ended up with 12 overdrafts at $35 each. We were outraged and wondered how this could happen because we had over $4500 in our savings. My husband went to 2 branches near our house and both blew him off. They completely washed their hands of the situation by telling us we needed to contact the US Bank where we opened the checking account. This is funny because he was at the branch that setup the “overdraft protection” and the savings account. They took absolutely NO RESPONSIBILITY. The teller explained that my name was not on the savings account so they could not provide us with the overdraft protection. I find this outragous because the night before, I withdrew $500 from that savings account. My husband wasn’t even there. The teller also told my husband that 3 more overdrafts would still be posted, which ended up being 6. The fact that we had 6 more overdrafts go through instead of 3 comfirms that these people are either imcompetent or they are liars. This all happened friday in the late afternoon. Go figure, we can’t get a hold of anyone at the WI branch on the weekend. My husband pulled all of our money from the savings and asked them to close the account…. Which, of course, they didn’t do.
After leaving the 2nd branch, my husband called the customer service number and they credited him for only 3 overdrafts. So they are admitting they are wrong enough to cover only 1/4 of thier mistake? She also told him that he needed to contact the bank in WI.
I then called the customer service number and explained the entire situation to a rep who asked me to hold and then transfered me to a ringing phone that hung up on me!?! Of course, I called back. I explained the situation again to another rep and she asked, “So you are calling because you want me to close the savings account?” CLOSE THE SAVINGS ACCOUNT??????? I told her that her that I wanted my money back. They took money from my account that was not theirs to take. We were lied to and now it is costing me money? How does that work? With US Bank, anything is possible.

  2. The whole thing about talking to the branch where you opened the account has a reason. The bank branch manager there is the person that has more control over the account than other Bank Employees. As for admiting they were wrong by being nice and refunding an overdraft. That’s just silly. Some person on the phone who has been yelled at for 6 hours, is tired, and just wants to help you out did not admit to anything.

To many people just want to point a finger at the guy on the phone. He didn’t spend your money. He can only do so much. In the end the very best person to talk to about overdraft fees in the person where you open the account. That’s just how it works. Not like anyone working at the bank gets paid to not over turn fees.

Try working for the bank for a month, and see the type of things that you hear. People calling in to cancel checks right after picking up goods. Just because. People writting bad checks and yelling at the bank.

  3. i have to concure. i currently work for us bank, after working for two others as well. these are common practicies. most people dont understand that if the bank did not cover the charges the people put thru, then lets say walmart for example, would charge you 35 or so for a returned check charge, (which they would take outa your account) and then the bank has a chage for returned item as well, becuase we take a substantial loss from these charges, totaling 60 or so dollars, as opposed to the 35 for the overdraft fee. It must also be noted, that the overdraft fees that do come outa the account are AUTOMATESD… meaning no human did them, many people do not realize this. while they should have set the overdraft up, it does baffle me as to why the could not locate you on the account, especially if were on it is the first place. i agree, that part is messed up, and they should have done more reasurch, looked thru the sig cards, and looked on the hogan.

i am sorry you had to deal with people who did not know how to do thier job, and didnt know how to proivde good customer service. unfortunitly, it happens a little too often.

As far as having to go to the branch you opened the account up on, the reason for that being is that no branch has authority over another branches account, its kinda like a territorial thing. HOEVER– the branch you lived by can always call the branch you oppend up the account at and getting the ok to refund. they should have done this for you!!!! especially given you relationship and history with the bank. i am once again sorry, that you had to deal with incompetent employees.
