Why I (a) love Doyce and (b) hate my job

Just to clarify …
The one movie I am goddamned dying to see — Serenity.
A sneak preview — a sneak preview — of the current movie, months in advance.
One of the sites? Denver.
Three. Blocks. From. Doyce’s. House.
And, at 1:30 a.m., that fine, fine, good, honorable man bought tickets for the local set of Firefly fanatics.
I love him. I want to name my first-born after him, but she’d probably object by now.
And then.
The penny (the frickin’ anti-matter penny with adamantium blades on the frickin’ edge of it) drops.
The preview is in a week. On Thursday, 5 May.
I will be in California. On a business trip. On my annual once-a-year meet-with-the-boss-and-my-peer-managers here’s-the-new-reorg Most Important Business Trip of the Year meeting.
All. Week.
Now, in theory, could I break away Thursday in time to be back for the 10 p.m. showing?
(Does math in head. 1 hr travel time from airport + 2 hrs air time + 1 hr airport time + 2 hrs travel time Castaic to LAX + 1 hr time zone difference = 7 hrs = leave Thursday at 3 p.m. assuming the flight is perfect and there are no delays anywhere along the line …)
Can’t do it.
Any other trip, I’d rearrange. But I can’t miss a dinner and most of an afternoon and all Friday morning. Not on this trip.
Rrg.
First time I’ve hoped I get fired. Or that the movie sucks.
And the worst part? The absolute worst part?
Everyone else will have seen it and (hopefully) be chortling madly about it, dropping lines from it, discussing it …
… but not around me.
(Yes, it’s all about me.)
This is infinitely worse than when everyone except Margie and I had seen Attack of the Clones, and I had to go to a D&D game with a bunch of said everyones and keep my fingers in my ears most of the time. First off, because that only lasted a week or two, and, secondly, because I want to see this movie so bad …
A pity they just made taking a camcorder into a movie theater a frelling felony.
Rrg.
I just do not frelling believe it.
Yes, I am going to be bitter about this. For a long, long, long, time.
At least until 30 September.
And maybe longer.
well…
Serenity and as it turns out the Harry Potter books are also on the list of things not to talk about around you (the next book is out in a couple of months, you really aught to catch up).
Next IDC game is going to be sooooo hard not to talk about the movie. Especially since it’s not CoH related and Randy can participate in the conversation for once.
So anyways, remember the scene where River and the Reivers…oh…never mind.;->
Or When Jayne say to Wash…oops;->
It’s different. First off, the number of HP conversations that start up around me is miniscule. And, frankly, it’s my own fault. And, even more frankly, I don’t care nearly as much.
Mood: Bitter
