Slowing down some, obviously. Took another break. Margie bought many foodstuffs for me to nibble on — far more than I possibly could (even without time constraints). Still, Coldstone makes tasty ice cream …
Comics I’m reading:
- Robin #140 (DC): Robin goes undercover to join up with the military unit run by the Veteran, some sort of immortal Captain America-like figure. His personal life becomes more complicated. Not one of Willingham’s better efforts, though with a few amusing moments.
- Runaways #5-6 (Marvel): The Runaways discover the kid they’ve been warned by a future self will become a world-conquering villain isn’t really the son of Victor Von Doom. Whew! He’s the “son” of Ultron. Yikes. Much battle ensues, complicated by the Masks Anonymous quasi-supergroup on their tails to capture and “deprogram” them. Good, if complicated, work from Vaughan, illustrated by Alphona. Should be getting a new trade shortly, I expect.
- Serenity #1 (Dark Horse): Yes, this does indeed read like an episode of the show. Given that Joss is doing the scripting, that’s little wonder. The art is reasonably similar to the characters without looking stiff. There’s the normal blend of humor and drama, and the appearance of a particular group of baddies that were missing from the upcoming movie. Can’t wait for #2 — nor to see the “final” cut of the movie.
- Shanna the She-Devil #6 (of 7) (Marvel): Frank Cho writing and drawing a beautiful near-naked lady in combat with endless dinosaurs. What could possibly be better than that. So the story is “only” a ripping adventure tale. Who cares? In this installment, Shanna and Doc have to get across a valley full of velociraptors in order to get the antidote back to camp. Good, bloody fun with Shanna. And, to be honest, a moving tale as well. Cannot wait for the TPB. And if I weren’t a married man, I’d be looking for a poster, too … Good stuff.
The Serenity book is out? Damn, we gotta go pick that up!
Good luck with that — I heard supply was pretty constrained, and it’s been out for like 3 weeks now.
Very happy I got the John Casaday “Mal” cover. Shiny!
You can still find some on ebay. I had to pick up a second copy for my mom and that’s where I ended up getting it.
