Um … yay?
Windows Sidebar ssems to be a Windows Vista place for Windows Gadgets to reside, Windows Gadgets being little mini-applets. Which sounds a lot like the latest Apple OS’s whiz-bang coolness, though I’m sure it’s different. But, frankly, I wasn’t filled with Mac Envy from that, either. I don’t feel a compelling need for a clock, a stock ticker, a reminder window, or other sidebar things that … well … I already have in the old-fashioned WinXP interface.
I mean, cool, it looks spiffy and fun and all that, but … well … I really don’t see anything there that has me salivating for Gadgets. Or Windows Sidebar. Or, frankly, Windows Vista. I won’t turn them down, but I’m not counting the hours, either.
Tell me how, as an end-user (and one with a fair amount of experience in customizing his personal computing environment, often to the irk of his local IT folk), this is going to make my life more fun, more exciting, or better.

Actually, what I want is for more game makers to produce Linux versions of their games so I can dump Windows altogether…
I won’t go that far. For all I rail against M$, Windows is not all that bad of a system. Could be better. Has been worse.
But — yikes. Would that they’d take the effort put into Gadgets, et al., and applied it to the database-based file system that’s been on tap for Windows for years now. That would be a service and an improvement I’d pay to upgrade to.
