1. You can’t see it clearly in this pic, but the uprights in the railing are lengths of narrow copper pipe (vs wood). Looks very nice, should age nicely, and is cheap. (You can see some longer lengths in the foreground lying on the deck.)

   One question we’ll need to address is the finishing of the redwood parts — some sort of protective stain.

   We’ll also need to redo some of the sprinkler heads — change the head orientation, maybe move a couple of them. The sprinklers are off for the season (being blown out today), but we’ll need to have that resolved before next season.

   Finally, we’ll need to address the “under the deck” issue. I’d added, shortly after we moved in, a lattice barrier around the bottom of the deck. I think I’ll need to do something similar this time, but I’ll have to check. It’s going to be tricker, because the height on the edges is now taller than it was. I’ll probably consult Jim …

   (Instead of an actual barrier — an edging on the ground, plus some trellices? Maybe.)
