A request for suggestions here, folks.

I’m finding the (free, but unsupported) airblogging.com site to be too flaky for normal use. About 1 out of 5 messages never make it to my blog (with no clue why), and that seems to be getting worse.

I am looking for a mechanism to allow me to post photos from my Treo cell phone (Cingular) to my Movable Type blog.

I am not interested in hosting the pictures elsewhere (in particular at Flickr). And I’d rather avoid running something on my server if I could avoid it. I’d prefer something like, well, airblogging.com.

I’ve been researching via Google, but don’t have any good answers yet.

  1. I just ran into this for the first time today: trying to post a Kaylee picture up and having it simply vanish into the ether.

    Very annoying.

    And no, I’ve no suggestions.

  2. It’s happened to me, on and off, since I first started using it.

I’ve sent three pics in the last 24-ish hours, with nothing showing up. The web page is still there (with no activity since January, to be sure).

    Annoying, as you say.

  3. Sorry I can’t help. I’m just posting directly from my phone by sending a picture message to my blog, but I still can’t figure out how to keep Verizon from including all that annoying crap that tag onto my message. So basically, if you figure somethign out, let me know!

  4. I note that one picture I sent airblogging this morning did actually get through (it was a test, though, so I dumped it). A later one I intentionally took has not shown up as yet.

Alas, Cingular (even Real Cingular, not The Cingular Formerly Known As AT&T) doesn’t have a post-by-phone feature. Dagnabbit.

Interestingly, my site comes up as the third (or fifth, depending on how you count) hit on Google for “cingular airblogging“.

  5. Spent the afternoon playing with MFOP2 again. Could see it successfully signing into MT on my site, but never posted anything.

As it turns out, MFOP doesn’t work with MT3. Dagnabbit.

I really don’t want to do it via Flickr (etc.), though that seems to be what most people do. I simply don’t trust stuff being hosted other than on my own site, and if Flickr disappeared tomorrow (or changed to a pay model, or whatever), all those photo entries on the site would just poof away.

    Rrg.

And, by the way, I’m now 1 and 5 on airblogging.com posts over the last 30 hours. Rrg.
