So, since it looks like I am The Man Without A Broadband Connection until I return home (at least, the sort of broadband connection in a situation that would let me, oh, play CoH), I am stuck watching movies here at the hotel (after I eat sumptuous dinners, of course).
So …
Votes for (a) which movie I should watch, and (b) which movie I will watch on Wednesday night:
- The Fantastic Four: Well, heck, it’s a comic book movie, and one I’m not likely to see any time soon outside of a hotel stay.
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: A book I liked, and Johnny Depp. Kitten has expressed an interest.
- War of the Worlds: Though not a Tom Cruise fan, I’m certainly a fan of the story. And it’s not something I’m liable to buy for home.
- Batman Begins: Never saw this, but suggested by a number of friends.
- Sin City: Bruce Willis. Frank Miller. More violence (one assumes) than Margie would care for. Hmmmm …
- Sky High: Apparently fun, even if a PS238 rip-off — but Katherine is very interested, which implies we’ll be either buying it or borrowing it sometime.
- Mr. and Mrs. Smith: A novel conceit, but I saw a copy at the Testerfolks the other day, so I’m able to borrow it — if it actually occurs to me to do so (and presuming they consent).
- Constantine: Oh, wait, I watched that last night.
I vote for Batman with Sin City as a seccond choice (although I know your not a huge Frank Miller fan and the movie is like a live action of his graphic novel). I hugely enjoyed Batman Begins. Fantastic Four is not real good, but it is a comic book movie!?!
Actually, there’s a lot of Frank Miller I like (I actually have most of the SC trades).
I’ve seen Batman Begins and Sin City. Batman Begins is a better movie. It is a good take on the Batman origin story with elements from “Batman: Year One”. It’s a good story, nicely done. Sin City is a combination of several Sin City stories done in a way that closely reproduces some of Miller’s images. It doesn’t really hold together, and I’d say it’s only interesting as a curiosity, both as a novel way of making a movie and as a translation of the comics.
And the answer is:
The broadband was working when I got back to the hotel tonight …
I really liked Batman Begins, though I could have done with a stronger female lead…anyone who could act would be nice. Otherwise, very well done. Nice supporting cast, and worth the money.
That being said I haven’t seen any of the rest, though I’d like to see some of them. I’ve heard WotW sucks big time.
I would not expect it to be any better than the George Pal rendition. Now there’s a classic.
And, all told, I had much more fun playing CoH with my bunny-boo than watching any movie …
Like Amanda, I’ve seen only “Batman Begins,” and found it to be quite enjoyable.
I don’t watch many contemporary films. I might occasionally catch one on cable, but since I don’t expect to have a premium channel when I get to Washington (Leaving two weeks from today! Yipe!), I probably won’t ever see any of the others on your list.
