Actually, it seems to me that Vaseline’s ubiquity has decreased significantly over my lifetime. There are higher-tech (and much better, not to mention convenient) wound gels, lip balms, diaper creams, personal lubricants, etc. I’m sure there are some people who swear by it, but I can’t think of the last time that I actually used the stuff — though, of course, I have a bottle of the stuff in the medicine cabinet, since it never goes bad …
