Margie has an 80Gb iPod that’s smaller than a package of cigarettes.
I have a 1Gb chip in my cell phone the size of a dime.
People carry around 2Gb thumb drives and use them as key fobs and neckaces.
But back in 1956, a 5Mb 4.4Mb drive (an IBM 350 disk system for an IBM 305 RAMAC) was … not quite as convenient to use. It also cost $35K (in 1956 dollars) to lease (the full system) for a year.

I remember when I finally switched from my Commodore computer to an IBM clone. The 30MB hard drive was defective, and the shop didn’t have any more, so I had to upgrade to 40MB. I remember thinking “How on Earth will I ever fill up 40MB???”
And RAM… My first computer was a VIC-20 with 1.5 KB RAM. I bought the “Super Expander” cartridge that jumped it all the way up to 5KB and let you draw circles and squares!
Heh. My first home computer was a C64, and I was so proud that I’d eschewed the tape drive and gone straight to a (single-sided) floppy.
