Oversized paperback. Not trade paperbacks, at least as I understand it, but paperback width books that are about 3/4 to 1 inch taller than others.
Makes shelving really annoying. Clearly a marketing ploy (“Look! This book is tall!”), but irksome.

My copy of Larry Gonick’s Cartoon Guide to Statistics is just over nine inches tall. But I like that size; if it were standard paperback size, it would be too small for the content. Or are we talking about regular paperback novels?
We’re talking regular paperback novels, e.g., the latest Steven King and other bestsellers. Paperback width, but added height to (presumably) stand out on a store shelf. Feh.
