Yes, it looks very cool. I can’t get too excited, though, since I’m not going to pony up $500 for one myself, and my company’s cracking down on available phone models (my Treo wouldn’t be allowed if I wanted to buy it today). So I’ll stick with what I’ve got and see what’s out there in a few years when I need to actually upgrade.
But it does look very cool.
(And, yes, it’s mildly interesting that Apple Computers is changing to Apple, Inc., but not really surprising. Indeed, the surprise is that they didn’t do it long ago.)
The market certainly was enthused about the iPhone — to the expense of RIM (Blackberry) and Palm (Treo).
I’m hoping that in a few years when I need a new PDA, the price will have dropped and I can do away with the Palm/OS interface, since I have an iMac already. Sweet.
I’m surprised that Apple announced it so far ahead of time. In the past, they only announced things that would be available pretty quickly. I admired them for that, so I’m sorry to see them go to this kind of long-distance pre-announcement.
My impression is that Cingular isn’t the best carrier. I’m surprised and disappointet that Apple went with them. The phone will have to be really good to get me to switch to Cingular, or Cingular will have to improve a lot.
As Mary suggests, the price is steep. Not having seen the phone, it will have to be REALLY COOL to get me to pony up that kind of cash.
I’m not so interested in the Video or iPod features as I am in a phone that integrates well with Apple’s calendar and address book. That is, I am more interested in a personal organizer/phone that works really well with my Apple laptop than I am interested in an entertainment device/phone.
I think many folks have succumbed to the Reality Distortion Field, and it won’t be nearly as big a success as many people think it will be.
