Throwing up a Blue Screen of Death, though — that’s maybe a bit overly-zealous.

  1. Ouch!
I am slowly rebuilding my beloved ThinkPad X40, which crashed hard after installing MS patches last week. Didn’t lose any data (good backup habits) but that’s 2 years of getting every icon in the right place, just the set of handy utilities and editors that I like, file preferences, all polished to a high gloss…

Somewhere at Microsoft there is a developer who would be well-advised to stay out of my way for a while.

  2. For the record, the BSOD error I got was “BAD_POOL_HEADER.”

And, yes, I hate having to not just reload, but reconfigure my PC. It’s like having your house burn down and the insurance replaces everything — and the delivery folks put the boxes and furniture where *they* think it should go and tell you you’re on your own to actually function. Bleah.
