For the record, the BSOD error I got was “BAD_POOL_HEADER.”
And, yes, I hate having to not just reload, but reconfigure my PC. It’s like having your house burn down and the insurance replaces everything — and the delivery folks put the boxes and furniture where *they* think it should go and tell you you’re on your own to actually function. Bleah.
