I absolutely loved that clip. The costume details were clever, the “silent movie” acting was consistently funny, the props were amusing, and it was even funny that all the men were portly and the female member was pleasingly plump (with a gorgeous head of hair). The only prop I would have changed was the communicator: an ornate speaking tube extended down to the planet from “orbit” would have been a better period in-joke (especially if it had a cover that had to be flipped open).
My favorite part was “Mr Soot,” though. I had a pleasant flashback to the gentle era of Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood when they showed him onscreen the first time.
Not being a MisterRogers guy, I didn’t quite get that bit.
But overall, quite amusing. Enjoyed the piano riffs (though a bit more ST music could have been adopted — e.g., during the mind meld scene). On the other hand, we got Klingon Music, so that was keen.
I was also waiting for a bad joke about a creature from the Great Coal Sack Nebula, an “He’s dead, Jim,” etc. But … good fun.
