Space aliens, conspiring with the government, are forcing a shut-down of everyone’s favorite tabloid, the Weekly World News!
Well, no, it will continue online — but that’s hardly a help whilst standing at the check-out counter. The WWN’s headlines were always a lot more interesting (and, frankly, believable) than the other grocery store fodder (“Jenna is having Brad’s baby! Oprah incensed!”). And, frankly, I expect to read incredible stuff like that online (satire or not), whereas there was always an amazing frisson of “Oh my God, it’s in print, so it must be true!”
The world will be a slightly less surreal place.

I remember during the big Northridge quake in California, they scooped all the TV stations by getting the only picture of Satan rising from a destroyed freeway overpass!
When they revealed that Abraham Lincoln had been brought back to life, I wondered what his first words would be. My friend suggested “Where’s my hat?”
It was really cool when they informed us that the Hubble Space Telescope had taken the first actual photographs of Heaven. Go, science!
what’ll we pin up on the bulletin board at work? Computer printouts just aren’t the same, and we so enjoyed that cover of Hillary receiving a gift of lingerie from her alien boyfriend…
