Since I changed over from Blogmatrix Jaeger to Google Reader as my RSS reader, the one feature I’ve really missed is the ability to generate a blogroll in the sidebar. Google Reader allows an OPML export (which means you can share RSS feed lists with other readers), but nothing that will generate HTML for the page.
Enter a new “20% time” feature for Google Reader that lets you tag categories to create a blogroll. Yay!
Well …
The Javascript generated has no opportunity to apply formatting (through CSS or something). The result is that it takes up a huge amount of real estate. To blogroll everything that’s there in my current blogroll would require scrolling down to the bottom of the existing front page, which would be kind of goofy.
What I think I may do is figure out what people actually want to go to, and then add those links to their own category. (Google Reader lets you add a feed to multiple feeds). The result will be trimmed down (literally and figuratively). Though … dagnabbit, it autoalphabetizes everything, which means that everything I’d select would be all higgledy-piggledy, unless I do some other groupings.
Hrm.
Let me ponder this …
U.S. Bank, N. A. was chosen as my lender to finance a trailer from a sales site in San Antonio.
I was a fool and signed it (I guess because I have never bought a home/trailer a ridiculous finance rate was assigned despite the fact that I have excellent credit.)
Am now submitting on a regular basis to “Comptroller of Currency” that somehow oversees American banks. Don’t know if they are of any benefit but it might help in the end when I am foreclosed.
A male rep of the bank told me I would be refinanced but now they sing this tune that because I am in Texas, the only way to refinance is to physically show up in one of their banks. The nearest one is in Denver. I am near San Antonio.
Other day a woman from one of their banks calls and says I owe a balance of 78 dollars or thereabouts to complete my October billing. I told her I never place calls for payment purposes and always send checks. I then asked her to provide me proof of the transaction (like credit card #) AND SHE COULDN’T!~!!!
I am sick of these guys and as sane/insane as it sounds I can hardly wait to divorce my relationship with these thugs.
I suspect, Don, you were looking to comment on this post.
Okay, I’ve built a set of Google Reader tag groups with selections from my Google Reader feeds as People Links, Comics Links, and Other Links. I think I have the links I most want to have there, and the ones that I think folks probably use — if there’s a link that used to be there that you can’t find now, please let me know (as it’s pretty quick and trivial to fix).
I got around some of the “this makes huge blogrolls” problems by choosing the “None” formatting. Which is fine, except that it makes the text larger that it should be for my sidebar formatting (dagnabbit).
But it’s a better arrangement than the static file I had before.
Let me know what you think.
Margie observes that the links don’t open up in new windows.
Shouldn’t Girl Genius be in the Comics links section?
Yes, it should. And, now, is. Thanks.
