Making intelligent car decisions

In renting a car for our Northern California jaunt, it’s annoying that renting a “green” vehicle is significantly more expensive (categorically) than the average sedan, as is renting a “specialty” vehicle like, say, a Prius.

Indeed, the cheapest thing available (from Avis) was a mid-size SUV. No thanks.
