So Margie got home a while after the work crew stopped for the day. They were pretty much done with the demo, and it made little sense for them to start on the next phase.
Overall, it went pretty well. They did a thorough job, had good equipment, and cleaned up after themselves.
They did clear out plants from the upper bed a lot further over than I was expecting (or that I think was needful for putting in the patio). That said, at one point I spotted some irises that had been pulled up along with a huge patch of lavender (which, truth be told, probably needed it), and I quick rescued some. Later in the day, I found that, as I’d shown I was interested in them, some other irises that had been pulled had been separated and replanted in an area not being torn up, and watered to boot. It was a nice gesture, save that’s a spot where some extra flagstones are going for a walkway, but I did manage to rescue that.
A couple of the upper sprinkler heads have been buried (capped first, I hope). I need to talk with them about that.
We had some conversations (both me and the crew lead, and me and Margie) about how we’re doing the front steps (shaving some concrete to bring the flagstone skin to the top — adding in a step in one place, extending out another — should be good).
The loop of sidewalk from the driveway to the front door is further down than I was expecting. I think it’s okay, though.
I was trying to visualize where the trees were going to be going, but couldn’t quite yet (a huge mound of dirt and another mound of boulders didn’t help).
I’m going out and taking pictures on a regular basis, though I’m definitely trying to stay out of the way. Nerves are still frazzled. 🙂
Plus, I am sure that Mist Kitty was all sorts of put out by having his prime napping in the sun time distrubed. =P
Yeah, the cats haven’t been real thrilled by all the brouhaha in the front yard.
