I was going to bail on game night last evening, not feeling up to a D&D-fest, but Katherine was seriously disappointed (which made me feel good and bad at the same time). So I compromised and we broke out the Munchkin game. Fun had by all. It was good reading exercise, she thought the cards were hilarious (if a bit racy in places), and she ended up winning (with not that much help).

(I was greatly amused by having my character draw, as his first monster, a Level 9 Cat-Girl.)

Also on deck for a D&D substitute is Talisman. I do plan to get back to the D&D (really-truly), but it’s good to know there are other things.

  1. There’s a Talisman-like Munchkin Quest game due out soon.

I’m amused by the sudden rash of dungeoneering boardgames, from Tomb, to Order of the Stick, to Munchkin Quest to the large-format (and oft-delayed) Dungeoneer game. That’s a lot of similar gameplay in expensive, though entertaining, packages.
