Bicycle Ballet

Kids, don’t try this at home. But … marvel at someone who did.

  1. That’s funny. I had exactly that same thought (bicycle parkour).

Cyclists call it “urban trials” or “street trials”. The cycling event or discipline called “trials” is a timed event out in the woods on a course with lots of natural obstacles. A time penalty is imposed whenever a competitor puts a foot down (that’s called a “dab”). Some moves the guy in the video demonstrated were developed to let a cyclist go over these natural obstacles (e.g. hopping up onto rocks, riding along the tops of fallen logs). Naturally, people started applying those same skills in the urban environment, and I assume that new moves were developed to handle the features of the urban environment. The scary thing to me is how many times one probably falls down when learning those skills.
