Cue the Jaws music

So Mimi was acting kind of off last evening. She was sitting in the garage (odd) very quiet, and when I petted her she just sort of sat there.

Margie reported when she came up that she was worried about Mimi, who had moved up to the couch.

When I came down this morning, that’s where she was still. Margie had put some water down for her, but it looked untouched. I gave her a few pets, and she reacted pleasantly to it but without vocalizations or moving around.

I had some vision of something wrong GI-wise, like she’d eaten something odd.  There was also an odd crackling sound when I stroked her side (which made me think of bubble wrap). But she wasn’t in obvious pain or distress, so I didn’t feel the need to go to the Kitteh ER.

But first thing (8 a.m.) we called the vet, and got place for her at 8:30. Margie took her in, while I sat and fretted at home.

Well, finally got a call back. Mimi wasn’t moving around a lot because she was sore — there were signs of major contusions on both sides of her, like something had grabbed her in its large mouth.

Yikes!

(Crackling sound was gas under the skin from said contusions, btw.)

So Mimi is sitting at the clinic at the moment, being X-rayed, but the docs seem to think she’ll be fine — and she was actually on her feet and moving around in the exam room, so she’s feeling a bit better. And we’ll be going on a dusk-to-dawn curfew around the house, as this would have happened in early night hours. Annoying, but there it is. And Mimi is okay, so that’s the best part of all.

  1. Hrm. Indeed.

We’d actually been kind of trying to do this; for some reason last night things didn’t get buttoned down. We need to be more diligent.

“They mostly come out at night. Mostly.”

  2. Mrr. Mimi Kitteh has a (at least one) broken rib. So not only does she get antibiotics, but pain meds.

Fortunately, both meds are only for a week (looks at vacation clock).

  3. Mimi continues to improve leaps and bounds (though not quite up to her previous leaping and bounding). No need for pain meds, she’s back on her feed and getting antibiotics three times a day (much to her displeasure).
