Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Sacrifices Were Made – Yes. Yes, this explains a lot.
- Well – Kept From a Dying Partner’s Bedside – NYTimes.com – I hope the hospital Loses. It’s. Ass. in court.
- Fox execs explain why they kept Dollhouse and killed Sarah Connor | SCI FI Wire – I’d stopped watching SCC earlier this season, not because the show was poor but because I was running out of (limited) watching time. It’s a shame to see it go — though I’m tickled by Dollhouse being picked up. It’s almost like Fox figured if they canceled another Joss show, they might have to go into a Witness Protection program or something …

- When should the state override parents on the issue of a child’s health care? – This is one of those cases where personal liberty — even the liberty to be stupid — collides with societal priorities. Rarely are there simple rules that make it an easy problem to solve.
- Travel full-time for less than $14,000 per year – Some great advice here, and not just for folks traveling on a tight budget.
- “Epitaph One” will be aired on Fox says Dollverse.
- Tomorrowland Movie Details Revealed – Sounds like it could be entertaining in spite of itself.
- Your Credit Card Company Is Building A Psychological Profile Of You [Credit Cards] – This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it’s certainly not new (Fred the Grocer used similar discretion and evaluation, and probably a lot less scientifically, to decide whether to extend you credit). But it’s still kind of creepy.
- Food Companies: Our Food Probably Isn’t Safe Enough For Your Microwave. Good Luck! [Food Safety] – Riiiiight. I’m going to use a food thermometer on my bloody pot pie? Multiple places? Give me a break.
- Sony Pictures CEO: “Nothing good from the Internet, period.” – Well, there’s one reason why Sony is in a steady state of decline against its competitors.
- Rumsfeld sent Bush creepy Top Secret religious updates about the Iraq war – In case you haven’t clicked through to the GQ story, some images of the briefing covers. Disgusting.
- Report Weighs Environmental Fallout of Canada’s Oil Sands – NYTimes.com – My company does a lot of work in Canada around this business, so I have a vested interest. But I do think that the production and use of this resource both needs to be on the table (as a supply) and directly recognized (as a greenhouse gas source).
- Aaron Zelinsky: Echoes of the Bible: Obama’s Notre Dame Address – Wow. And here all the protesters made me think he was going to leap on stage, eating a live baby and calling for all Christians to be thrown to the lions or something. Imagine that.
- M31: The Andromeda Galaxy – A classic image (I can hear the old “Outer Limits” end titles music playing in my head).
- The Time Has Come to Panic – Okay, there’s rhetorical hyperbole and there’s utter, frenzied, losing of one’s mind. It certainly seems like the latter is what’s happening here.
- Notebooks made from punchcards – These are cool. I “rescued” several boxes of unpunched Hollerith cards from my workplace when they retired the equipment. Made for good note cards.
