Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Cheney Now Too Radical for the Radical Right – Speaking of litmus tests …
- Efforts to Protect Choice and Doctors Will Only Lead To More Violence – Ah, I see — Tiller’s death is the fault of the Democrats and the pro-choice crowd for making the anti-abortion folks feel “helpless.” We should probably blame Obama for winning last year. (Yeesh.)
- Rep. Akin Argues Against Curbing Emissions: I Don’t Want To Stop The Seasons From Changing – Breathtaking ignorance. It would be amusing, if he didn’t actually have a vote in Congress.
- It wasn’t meant to end like this
- Gingrich’s Moral Relativism : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – Gingrich is a self-serving demagogue. Here’s further demonstration.
- Introducing…Foundation Beyond Belief – Good on them.
- Episopalians end church dispute | church, diocese, members – Local – Colorado Springs Gazette, CO – Good to hear this has been settled. Now the more quiet challenges (maintaining the parish with a diminished population) begin. And there will be people on the sidelines, waiting to see the Episcopal parish down there fail.
- Wikimedia’s picture of the year – Wow. Nice.
- Ingraham and O’Reilly joke that MSNBC and liberal blogs are responsible for attack on Army recruiting center. – There’s a certain sauce-for-the-gander here, sure — but most of the anti-war sites that I’ve seen have not focused on the soldiers as maniacal killers, or suggested that troops at recruiting centers must be stopped by any means necessary, rhetoric that was (and remains) all to common in the case of Tiller and the abortion.
- How to: hide portions of text to Google on your WordPress blog: Jean-Baptiste Jung
- Cool Fonts: Old English Fonts & Free Script Fonts
- Oracle Could Release Java-based Netbooks Or Smartbooks – ITProPortal.com – I don’t think people much care about their Operating Systems, they just want (a) something that works, (b) something that runs the apps they know how to use, and (c) something that the guy/gal they know who knows all about computers can fix when there’s a problem.
- Disney PIXAR’s Up Scares the Conservative Christians – I’ve seen this a few places, and it’s bogglingly amusing … but it’s also satire (pointing to the Landover Baptist Church site, which is a spoof).
- Exposure to Atheists Matters – Not surprisingly, when you know a group (gays, atheists, Christians, the poor, Iranians, gamers) as individuals, they become more real, more relatable toward, and someone you’re more likely to protect and respect. Knowing them as just scary Others by label makes it easy to demonize them and discount them. Familiarity breeds respect.
- #515; In which there is Quite the Selection – Heh. Been there, guessed that.
- Online Personal Narratives from Patients of Murdered Late-Term Abortion Provider – Yeah, I’ve noticed that the stories about Dr Tiller have (aside from hinting that he cackled maniacally at each abortion performed) generally carried the sense that these late-term abortions were casual, discretionary, “Oh, I was going to kill my baby because it’s so inconvenient, but sort of lost track of the time” kind of stories. But that’s the narrative often used about abortions, whereas the personal stories I know of are usually far more wrenching and tragic — and these tales even moreso.
- Secret US Nuke Site List Accidentally Published Online by US Gov. – Oops.
- Delving into the psyche of men who buy exfoliant advertised for use after mother-daughter threeways – Yeesh. That’s pretty sleazy.
- EXCLUSIVE: Indiana Library Patron Who Challenged Nativity Scene Successful – It’s good to see some formal recognition of church-state barriers here — and some unprofessional behavior punished.
