- Not calculus; statistics! – I may be prejudiced by having a statistician as a wife, but I think the world would be much better if people knew how to intelligently use and understand statistics. So much of our reality (what we’re told) is based on it, but people don’t know what questions to ask (or that they should ask them).
- With Tiller Dead, Operation Rescue Turns Its Attention to Carhart: Kyle
- From Bad to Worse In Texas – Just who you want chairing your State Board of Education: ‘In fact, she wrote in her book that sending our children to public schools is “throwing them into the enemy’s flames even as the children of Israel threw their children to Moloch.”’ Altogether ooky!
- think that black people are “loud”: macon d
- the effects of parental imprisonment – I’m sure the Right will completely ignore any thought to “Think of the Children!” here. They’re far too busy trying to ban gay adoptions.
- Gmail leaves beta, launches “Back to Beta” Labs feature – Woot!
- VIDEO: Toyota Employees Taped Stealing From, Watching Porn In Customer’s Truck [Caught In The Act] – Crikey!
- Real Life Comics – strip for June / 12 / 2009 – Who needs to buy those expensive books when …?
- The Inscrutable Sarah Palin – “She’ll be back …” (he said in a thick, Austrian accent)
- Kraft Foods, Rearranging the Puzzle – Crikey, “shuffling deck chairs” indeed.
- Reviewage – Stan finally wraps up his “Avatar: The Last Airbender” viewing and reviewing. Good thoughts (though my demurrers are in the comments).
- Church of England bishop: Gays should ‘repent’ – No. They shouldn’t.
- Concerned Women for America, Confused on Sanford – “Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven” is a motto as pernicious as any I’ve ever heard, and usually used as a Get Out of Jail Free card here and now (regardless of how it will work Then).
- Why argue with success? – July 3, 2009 – Clueless? Cynical? Evil? Certainly, ahem, not nice.
- Nice news – Niceness is very important. But all by itself it’s a social thing, not a moral thing. People can be immoral, injust, even horrible, and yet still be “nice.” “He was such a nice young man” is the epithet of too many monsters.
