And … well, we’re mostly there. I’ve installed (actually, purchased and installed) the Thesis template theme, which is well-regarded for its flexibility and robust support.
Pretty much the main bits and pieces are in place.
And, most importantly (and the driver, once the subject came up), the Little Pictures are back in the left-hand margin. They’re a bit behind — I have some more recent ones to add in — but I’m pleased to see them there.
(I also checked it in FF 3.5, IE 6, and Chrome, so …)
More commentary in the comments, as I get there. If you find something explicitly not working, let me know.
Glad to see the time-machine photo-gallery back! Can you bump up the font size just a scoche?
I missed the ‘strip’ at first, but grew to like the random photo at the top more- actually made me look at them and read the caption.
Which just goes to show you can’t please everyone all of the time …
(I bumped the default text size up a scosh, George. Let me know if that works. At 16 pt, it feels “big” to me.)
“Recent Rumblings” now shows up twice in the sidebar.
Yes, in two different formats. Margie prefers the second (older) format, largely because of the timestamps. Any other reactions?
I do like the timestamp as well. It’s easier to tell at a glance where I need to return to to be current.
The new one had a provision for getting a “updated X ago” with a hover, but that’s broken (based on very old code).
That said, though I think it’s a nifty idea, I’ll probably go ahead and drop back to the old version.
I hadn’t noticed the different formats. I had noticed the lack of timestamps, which I found irksome. Glad to hear you’re reverting.
Hey! I’m the only one who gets to say “irksome” around here!
Is that like Dr. House is the only one allowed to use the white board in differential?
Only if I get to chow down on Vicodin. And get a cool office with a window.
Forgot to say; the bigger font-size does help, a scoche. I had found myself hitting ctrl+ a lot.
Which is funny, because I find your site has fairly tiny text. 🙂
The sidebar links certainly are tiny, in comparison to the column content. So there’s nothing wrong with your vision. But the variability of rendering is something I’ve tried to hammer home to web stakeholders on campus for years, and they struggle with it. I tell them it can look one way on your machine, and another on mine, with lots of variables including what fonts are available on a given operating system. Then they ask; \Can you make it 14 point?\ I’m not sure what that even means between a 15-inch monitor at 1024×768 or the screen on an iPhone, or my new 22-inch monitor at 1920×1080. And there are no inches in a .jpg file.
