Amazon Fail

I got an Amazon order in the mail yesterday.

On the front:

  • A label clearly to me.

Inside:

  • A book that isn’t what I ordered.
  • A return receipt.

The return receipt:

  • A book I did order.
  • Not the same order number.
  • An ordered by / billed to name and address that are defnitely not me.

The Returns system at Amazon doesn’t quite know what to make of it, since it’s an order not associated with me.

Oh, and I still want my book, a Joe Straczynski Thor collection. I wonder if Nicholas in New Jersey got it instead of the Hodges Harbrace Handbook I got.

Gonna have to figure out what to do about this one …

  1. Wow, what an epic fail for Amazon. I’ve never had any problems with their work until this summer when a gift book never arrived (but they sent a replacement copy without much problem). And I buy way too much from Amazon.

  2. I find it worthy of note because it’s a noteworthy exception to the usual accuracy that Amazon processes my excessive number of orders from them. It’s a “man bites dog” story.

The main question’s going to be if I can find an exceptional way to contact them about it, since the order number in question doesn’t show up in my Account.

  3. My wife received the wrong thing from .uk Amazon. She phoned and received the right thing shortly after. Still don’t know what to do with the leather iPhone cover and the other customer’s details on the receipt.

  4. You could always just mail it to the guy on the receipt with a request that he send the Thor book on to you. It would cost a bit more on postage but it would make up for it with a great anecdote to tell for the next few years…..
