Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Limbaugh Fill-In Advocates Secession: ‘I’d Like To See’ Whether ‘We Could Have A Sovereign Nation’ – I guess this is what happened to the “America: Love It or Leave It” crowd.
- Bachmann: Democrats are trying to ‘sabotage’ me because they’re afraid I’ll be the first woman president. – Hubris, thy name is Michele Bachmann (R-MN).
- Concept: Bluetooth rings that turn your hand into a phone – This is very fun.
- Seriously Sick: Food For When You’re Under the Weather – The key point here being, have something (good) on-hand or planned that you can do to feed yourself when sick — esp. if you don’t have someone else to take care of you at those times.
- California encourages buildings that are sure to burn – environment – 04 September 2009 – New Scientist – Some very good ideas — make sure everyone has fire insurance, make sure there’s a mechanism for everyone to get fire insurance — with an unintended result.
- Georgia Republican Senators Propose Amending State Constitution To Block Federal Health Care: Zaid Jilani
- White House to reveal visitor names – USATODAY.com – Good. But a shame it took this long and this much pressure to do so.
- California Attorney General Called To Investigate Insurance Companies’ Anti-Health Reform Advocacy – Ooooh … nice.
- President Obama addresses the myths and lies about health care reform. – Now, how much of this will he say — and follow through on — Wednesday before Congress?
- Compromised | Quiche Moraine – ‘This isn’t what I voted for. I did not vote for a man who allows his administration to solicit opportunities to water down the initiatives he promised. I did not vote for a man who reaches across the aisle to find a place to sit. I did not vote for a few more years. I did not vote for “Well, we could.”’
- The problem with positive thinking – Positive Thinking leads to disappointment at times — but it’s probably still worth it.
- Ed Schultz: GOP Hypocrisy on Health Care- Using Bethesda Naval Hospital for Their Own Surgeries – Not that Bethesda is perfectly run, but I’m sure that having that “Representative” title gets them some special non-plebeian treatment … which shows that it can be done.
- Turbine Unveils The Lord of The Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood – Ten Ton Hammer – Excellent! A great way to add some exploration into a realm that isn’t really shown in the movies (nor in LotR, though it’s a key setting in The Hobbit).
- Bit.ly Scores a Shorter & Better URL – Still not thrilled about shorteners of this sort, though they’re necessary for Twitter.
- “Upgrading” from Windows XP to Windows 7 in 5 Steps – Some good info here for upgrades/installs in general.
- Life imitates sci-fi as contact lens displays inch closer to reality – Probably just as well this technology won’t be common any time soon. Contacts make me all squidgy.
- Set Firefox 3 to Launch Gmail for mailto Links – Firefox – Lifehacker – Was looking for this with my new computer, and couldn’t find it … so linking to it (again?).
- Conservatives Never Met A Criminal They Didn’t Like – The Madoff Report: dday
- Could Texas’ Gingrich-Based High School History Curriculum Go National? – But remember — that’s not indoctrination! Or, at least not the EVIL SOCIALIST UNAMERICAN INDOCTRINATION THAT “THAT MAN” WANTS TO IMPOSE ON OUR DEFENSELESS CHILDREN!
- Liturgical roots, baptismal theology: where “full inclusion” comes from – An interesting, if mildly theo-wonky article, on the subject, esp. on the role of traditional reading of Scripture and how other traditions developed attain a similarly sacrosanct status. It leaves out, though, the biggest problem the church struggles with regarding including gays, which it did not with inclusion of blacks, women, etc.: while tradition might have prescribed (or proscribed) certain roles in worship and the community for those other groups, tradition holds that homosexuality itself is sinful. So long as churches struggle with that, and aren’t willing to convey a message that says that tradition is in error, the inclusion of gays will be problematic.

I am seriously irked that I didn’t know PAX was this weekend. I would love to have spent some time previewing Mirkwood as I did Moria last year, and perhaps even having my Kinship review picked up by a major gaming site again. Why doesn’t PAX email past attendees with info about upcoming events? I can’t find any way to sign up for a newsletter on their site. Grrr.
I’d seen it being mentioned by various folks I follow on Twitter — never thought about mentioning it myself, sorry, Avo.
I agree that it sounds like their communication is lacking.
Another point of convergence, Dave! I can’t stand putting stuff (ie contact lenses) in my eyes, either!
