Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Coming Soon: Solomon Kane? – Doesn’t resemble the original REH all that much, as I recall it — but it looks like goofy fun for all that.
- Great WWII Escapes Planted in Top Secret Game – Some great, fun history here.
- Meet the Religious Right’s Newest Target – Maybe we need a law that puts a special flag on press releases and op-eds that say, “Liberals hate America,” so that we can just skip them and move on. Yeesh.
- Conservative Christian Attorney Chastises the Right for Exploiting Rifqa Bary – Wow. Okay, the other day I asked if anyone on the “pro-family” social Right would apply those principles to the whole Rifqa Bary sitch. I am pleased that, in fact, someone has. Better yet is this line: “Please recognize that the Lord is not so powerless as to need people to hide information, to embellish facts, or to give false witness in order to advance Christ’s kingdom.” And this not from some squishy Lefty Christian (like, some would say, moi), but someone with solid evangelical credentials.
- You gotta admit, the man had style. – Very cool. And a great (and typical, for the man) anecdote.
- McDonald’s Lamp Post Makes Me Doubt My Mental Sanity Even More [Lighting] – Actually, that’s brilliant. So to speak.
- Dawn Teo: Humana Mailer Targets Elderly, Claims Medicare Benefits To Be Cut – Wow. Assuming that they’ve skirted around this being legal, I seriously hope this leads to people dropping Humana. What a bunch of scumbags.
- First they came for the Abortion Doctors… – Wow. Remind me to make another donation to the SKG.
- A Drug Arrest Every 18 Seconds : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – Rightly or wrongly, draconian law enforcement solutions to the drug problem aren’t working, aren’t reducing drug usage, and are chewing up monstrous quantities of enforcement resources, court time, and money. California with its 190%-of-capacity prisons is an example of this. Let’s try to figure out what works, rather than continuing to toss good money after bad.
- Duracell myGrid charges phones on a conductive pad – That’s kinda cool.
- Video: 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air Vs. 2009 Chevrolet Malibu – Yikes!

1959 vs. 2009
I’d assumed that the heavier steel construction of the old cars would make them more robust in collisions with modern cars.
Wrong!
I imagine that was true with some older cars.
On the other hand, the engine compartment in that ’59 is probably mostly empty, so it’s just a hollow metal shell up front, with simple metal bars for bumpers, no crumple zone design for the passengers, etc.
