Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Every cell in a chicken has its own male or female identity
- Highway to Hell – Rememember — this is what the future of Republican budgetary policy looks like — more tax cuts for the rich, elimination of Social Security, higher payroll taxes and lower insurance coverage for the employed, vouchers for Medicare … and, maybe, someday, the budget will, perhaps, be balanced.
- The Bunning legacy – The tyranny of the Senatorial Minority continues. And individual citizens most in need are the ones who suffer most.
- ‘I don’t think he gets a pass’ – I’ve respected Kucinich’s idealism and desire for something far more progressive than anything Congress is likely to pass. But if his only contribution is either getting his way or voting no, then he’s part of the opposition trying to kill any possible reform. Which means either he’s putting his principles before the common good, or he’s letting his ego get in the way of what’s important.
- It wasn’t the start of a beautiful friendship – Money quote: “This is where we really see the limits of an approach like Beck’s. His schtick — former wacky morning DJ turns guy who’s singlehandedly saving America by exposing what they don’t want you to know — works fine when it doesn’t involve actual knowledge or reporting. Once he needs that, though, things can fall apart very quickly.”
- Limbaugh Now Says He Won’t Move To Costa Rica — Will Just Go There To Use Its Public Health System – But, of course, he leaves unanswered all the important questions about why he’d prefer Costa Rica’s much more socialized health care system.
- American Petroleum Institute Uses Stock Photos Of ‘Americans’ To Defend Oil Subsidies – “Who will pay? Generic (but photogenic) stock people, that’s who!”
- Archidioscese responds to controversy over its decision to kick children with lesbian parents out of school. – Again, I’d argue that this could be a tremendous teaching moment for the archidiocese — if you want to inculcate the church’s values to this child (if not to her parents), than embracing them (or bringing them within arm’s reach) seems a much better approach than giving them the boot. That said, the child and her parents are probably better off not at SHJ. I’ll be curious to see if we get any answers to the questions raised at the bottom of the page; it makes one wonder what other classes of parents (thus their children) are unwelcome.

- Learning Creationism At Liberty U – Remember: this could be your doctor.
- BoA Will Stop Charging Overdraft Fees On Debit Purchase – Which is what most customers want, but which obviously means (gasp) less money for the bank. Kudos to BofA.
- Well, at least they tried to fix it: Cheezburger Network
- Man with ski mask, gun, breaks into Arapahoe bank – The Denver Post – Flagging this story only because of the school names listed at the end. Jeez, whatever happened to naming schools after presidents and the like, rather than stupid housing tract names?
- Amazon.com debate heats up at Colorado Capitol – The Denver Post – Okay, this doesn’t color Amazon’s reaction well; it would be trivial for them to include notification that sales tax is due on their invoices, on a slip in their boxes, by email, whatever.
- “Work Expands to the Time Allowed” [Quotables] – Parkinson had a lot of worthwhile things to say. I think probably half the jokes in Dilbert are from his writings, exemplified.

- Another Dumbass School Official Story : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – And the Zero Tolerance insanity continues.
- As If Red Light Cameras Aren’t Bad Enough… [Dispatches from the Culture Wars] – It’s like speed traps and the like — the immediate incentive is all about city revenues, not actual safety.
- Pam’s House Blend:: Instead of men worrying about dropping the soap, pay attention to women in the military being raped – Of course, I suspect a high percentage of the folks opposed to gays in the military are opposed to women in the military as well, and would welcome a terrible excuse to roll that policy back.
