Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Alan Grayson on Palin: ‘The most intelligent leader that the Republican Party has produced since George W. Bush’ – On the one hand, I dislike incivility from our politicians, and the this kind of rhetoric only encourages worse from the other side. On the other hand, Grayson’s delightful, and even though it’s wrong, it feels soooooooo right ….
- Howstuffworks “Redhead Extinction” – “Still not ginger.”
- Food Companies Start Listening To Customers, Ditch High Fructose Corn Syrup – Okay, perhaps the only advantage to have come from the ethanol scam, but still an advantage. But … why does the picture have someone throwing away candy corn? (weeps)

- CDC today : Effect Measure – Elections matter. And, in this case, your health may have depended on it.
- Well, We All Want to Change the World – Money graf: “While it’s nice that [Rep.] King [R-Iowa] stated his preference that the revolution be peaceful (revolutions being notoriously easy to control with soothing words at the outset), he is still ADVOCATING FOR THE OVERTHROW OF THE GOVERNMENT. Not voting out a party, but an overthrow of the entire government. That’s, you know, pretty close to treason. Just sayin.”
- A stroll down memory lane – Money graf: “If you don’t remember hearing about this much at the time [2003], you’re not alone — the media decided this wasn’t especially interesting. After all, even though Dems were beside themselves, reporters were certain ‘everyone knows’ process stories aren’t important. And yet, words like ‘reconciliation’ and ‘deem and pass’ are now all the rage — both among Republicans who made a mockery of the legislative process when they worked on health care, and among reporters who seem to find controversial whatever Republicans tell them to find controversial.”
- Romanoff prevails in Dem caucuses – The Denver Post – I got nearly daily calls from both camps encouraging me to attend the caucus. Neither candidate has wowed me thus far, but I suspect strongly whichever one comes out on top will have my full support in the Fall against whomever the GOP chooses.
- Chutzpah watch – Money graf: “Republicans who are scandalously abusing legislative procedures have found that the media will play along if they accuse Democrats of abusing legislative procedures. The GOP relied on reconciliation when they were in the majority, but raise hell about reconciliation now. The GOP relied on self-executing rules when they were in the majority, but are apoplectic about the same procedure now. And news outlets just keep deeming routine steps as ‘controversial’ because Republicans say so.”
- Bachmann Accuses The Media Of ‘Treason,’ Claims Use Of ‘Deem And Pass’ Warrants ‘Impeachment’ – You mean she’s both insulting and wrong? Inconceivable!
- Health care reform protesters mock man carrying sign saying he has Parkinson’s disease. – Wow — classy behavior. Emblematic, I fear, of the “I got mine, so screw you” mentality of at least some folks in the HCR bill opposition.
- Kucinich will vote for health care bill, says he’s bothered by ‘the attempt to delegitimize Obama’s presidency.’ – I do hope that Kucinich continues to lobby and push forward more progressive health care legislation — but I’m glad he’s finally seeing sanely what’s at stake with the current bill.
- From the WTF Department – Definitely a sign that at least one New York legislator doesn’t do his own cooking. And, leaving aside the actual effects on the cooking process, I would expect this would increase salt consumption as people dump too much from the shaker onto their bland servings.
