Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Betty Bowers’ Handy Bible Interpretation Guide – Unfortunately, too many right-wing evangelicals seem to treat the Bible this way.
- Science Question from a Toddler: Life before birth – Some cool bits on late fetal development of senses.
- Tangled Web – DORK TOWER, Wednesday, April 7, 2010 – Wow. This one has some painfully true elements to it …
- HP’s iPad-killer slate PC makes an appearance | Crave – CNET – I’m not convinced a Slate PC is an iPad killer. Slate PCs (which have come and gone multiple times) seem more a competitor for netbooks. They will never be as simple and appliance-like as an iPad — and, if they are, they will suffer the same disadvantages to go with the iPad’s advantages.
- Computer program allows car to stay in its lane without human control – As George notes, given the software/electronics problems that some major auto companies have had of late, plus my own knowledge of how hard it is to debug software, I’m not going to be a first generation “self-steering car” passenger. Heck, let them prove it works on trains (where you only have to worry about a much smaller set of factors) first.
- Don’t speak to me of any “Just War”: George
- Pulling the climate lever… – Interesting observations on climatology vs meteorology (and perhaps tied to the significant numbers of meteorologist — or are they just “weather people” on the news? — who are climate change denialists).
- Spirit Airlines Now Charging Up To $45 For Carry On Bags – Air travel just keeps getting crazier and crazier.
- Steampunk taxidermy – Wow. That’s … disturbing.
- Is permission needed to retweet hot news? – Do facts want to be free? Is there a “hot” right to reporting about reality, and when does it expire? Should new organizations have some right to what they report? But how does that work in an age of blogs and Twitter?
- Virginia Gov. McDonnell proclaims April ‘Confederate History Month.’ – I guess the sop to the “slavery” issue is the acknowledgment that it was “a time very different than ours today.”
- Survey: TARP driving 8.5 percent profit – The Hill’s On The Money – I’ll wait until the money’s actually all in, but this is good news, and a fine example of how government intervention can actually both help the finance industry and the taxpayer. Of course, I have no doubt some conservatives will try to paint this as some sort of unfair tax burden on the banks …

- BBC News – Proper nouns come into play in Scrabble rule change – BLASPHEMY!
- The Lies Of The Pentagon, Ctd – The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan – Another insightful analysis of what’s going on at the time in the New Baghdad video (which is why my primary critique is of the troops involved but in the coverup that followed).
