Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- BBC News – No proof of mobile cancer risk, major study concludes – I’m sure all the people who have ignored all the other studies indicating this will ignore this one as well.
- Murkowski’s ‘resolution of disapproval’ – All the representation petro-dollars can buy.
- No more life sentences for minors who haven’t murdered – Well, that certainly seems appropriate. I find it remarakable that it only got a 5-4 SCOTUS ruling.
- Gingrich, meet Godwin – Money graf: “Gingrich was driven from office by members of his own party more than a decade ago, under a cloud of ethical lapses, policy failures, and personal scandal. He hasn’t held office since, but the media can’t stop turning to him — he was the single most frequent guest on “Meet the Press” in 2009 — giving him a national platform to spew nonsense, including yesterday, when he defended previous remarks comparing Americans to Nazis.”
- Transocean to give shareholders $1 billion while trying to cap its responsibility for Gulf spill at $27 million. – Eeeeevil.
- Pawlenty: Gays Shouldn’t Have The Power To Decide What To Do With The Body Of A Deceased Partner – In other words, “Let them eat cake (while I troll for more contributions from the Right).”
- Right Wing Reacts With Rage To First Muslim American Miss USA: ‘An Odd Form Of Affirmative Action’ – Because, of course, the idea that someone other than a WASP might actually be qualified to win a beauty pageant is so outre that it must be some sort of politically correct terrorist plot. Yeesh.
- BP chose more toxic, less effective oil dispersant manufactured by company with ‘close ties’ to oil giant. – Doing well by doing bad.
- Healing for hospital signs that don’t work – An interesting challenge (though I find the “half of all Americans — approximately 90 million — cannot read well enough to navigate a hospital’s written signs” stat to be more than a little disturbing). Trying to come up with symbolism that communicates, that isn’t bound to technology that’s likely to become obsolete, and that’s simple enough to reproduce cleanly, is tough. I plan on reading the background materials at the UC site more closely.
- Pesticide exposure may contribute to ADHD, study finds – Interesting, and quite believable. As George noted, links to other neurological and behavioral problems might also be found.
- Around the World in 51 Characters – In case you wanted to know more about the Wikipedia globe logo.
