Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Glenn Beck’s D’Oh! Ex Machina | Media Matters for America – Ward Cleaver = AMERICAN GOODNESS AND STRENGTH!! Homer Simpson = WEATHER UNDERGROUND STOOGE AND DESTROYER OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY AND AMERICAN!! (I think Glenn is off his meds. Again.)
- ADL’s most misguided moment – “What the Anti-Defamation League is arguing is that the sensitivities of bigots are more important than the religious liberty of American Muslims. The ADL believes faith communities should be free to build buildings, unless it might bother those who hate those faith communities.” You’d think some of the Christians banging the drums about the Cordoba Center would bear that lesson in mind, too.
- On this day in 1956 the national motto was changed from “E pluribus unum” to “In God We Trust” – The problem is, “e pluribus unum” is too uncomfortable for Dominionists and states-righters alike.
- True Bible Decoders are up to over 200+ wrong guesses about the end of the world. – It’s like deja vu all over again.
- Think Progress » Pastor Hosting ‘International Burn A Quran Day’: ‘We Have Nothing Against Muslims’ – “It’s our right! We live in America!” Yes, in America you can do stupid, ugly, hateful things. That doesn’t make it holy, or loving, or wise, or what Jesus would do.
- Think Progress » RNC Wishes Medicare A Happy Birthday By Covering Up Their Party’s Anti-Medicare Record – I’m sure they’d recommend a Death Panel for it if they could.
- North Korean team punished for World Cup losses – The floggings will continue until morale improves!
- Hands-Only CPR Works Just As Well As Mouth-To-Mouth – Heard a parallel article on NPR about this yesterday morning. Remarkable. It’s a shame that people decline to perform CPR now because of the mouth-to-mouth aspect — but if this gets around that and makes it easier for people to do (and easier to be instructed over the 911 line), then all the better.
- Anthony Weiner’s Anti-Republican House Floor Rant – GIVE ‘EM HELL, ANTHONY!
- “Never in the civilised world have so many been locked up for so little” [Dispatches from the Culture Wars] – What does it say about our country that we lock so many people up? What does it say if we feel that we have to?
- GOP’s Citizens United Hypocrisy | People For the American Way Blog – “While the 5-4 decision grants for-profit corporations the same free speech rights as individuals, the Court also ruled 8-1 to affirm the government’s right to enact rigorous campaign disclosure law.” Yes, well, huge surprise the Republicans are ignoring that part of the ruling (and, in fact, vilifying the whole concept).
- J Street’s Blog» Statement on Cordoba House Controversy – “We would hope the American Jewish community would be at the forefront of standing up for the freedom and equality of a religious minority looking to exercise its legal rights in the United States, rather than casting aspersions on its funders and giving in to the fear-mongerers and pandering politicians urging it to relocate.” Well said.
- ‘The Closer,’ ‘Rizzoli & Isles,’ and ‘Leverage’ renewed | EW.com – Don’t care about the rest, but jazzed about “Leverage.”

Silly Dave, did you actually believe that the ADL was actually about Anti-Defamation…for everyone? That is sooooo not what the ADL is about.
Yeah, I know …
I know you already have too much to watch, but Rizzoli & Isles is really good.
I have been watching R&I mainly because I was familiar with the work of Harmon and Alexander from L&O and NCIS. So far, I would say that the show is… okay. The plots are rather contrived, and Alexander’s character is rather unbelievable, with stilted dialogue. I find Harmon’s family scenes to be grating; I really hate the shrewish mother character.
I will give it a few more episodes before I drop it, largely because I want to like it. If Leverage is a 1, I would give R&I a .77 rating. Better than most current shows, somewhat entertaining, but far from compelling.
I haven’t seen anything about it that has made me at all desirous of watching it. Nothing actively repulsive, but nothing all that attractive.
