Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- If Sessions wants to compare, we can compare – GOP obstructionism — crowed to their supporters, denied to the press — is a sickness in our body politic.
- Federal Bureau of Investigation – Freedom of Information Privacy Act – Yeah, let’s give the FBI the right to secretly grab from our ISPs whatever information they want about our emails and Internet usage without even going to a judge first. They’d never abuse that sort of privilege, right?
- Statement On Islamic Community Center Near Ground Zero – The Anti-Defamation League is essentially saying they condemn religious bias but, in this case, we should give into it. Frankly, if this were a synagogue, I suspect they would not be so understanding and “sensitive.”
- A Democrat’s ethics probe vs. a Republican’s criminal probe: Steve Benen
- Gingrich, Sharia, Marital Rape, and Phyllis Schlafly – A very nice juxtaposition. I expect to hear Gingrich immediately condemn Schlafly and the Christian faith she promotes.
- Hayward Defends Tenure, BP’s Spill Response – WSJ.com – This fawning examination of Poor Tony is … disgusting. BP’s safety record is anything but praiseworthy, and not only did the buck (or pound) stop on his desk re the errors that led up to the Deepwater Horizon explosion, but BP’s prevarication and attempts at spin control after the fact made things only worse. He didn’t “become a villain for doing the right thing,” but for being a villain.
- Gingrich Suggests Taking Out The Remaining ‘Axis Of Evil’ Members: ‘We’re One Out Of Three’ – Pushing aside all the zaniness here, I’m really trying to figure out Gingrich’s odd FDR comparison. FDR didn’t preemptively declare war on Germany and Japan, or launch a sneak attack on them to destroy their growing threat. Japan had embargoes placed on it by the US (shades of Iran), and Germany was opposed primarily through lend-lease to the already-at-war Britain. In fact, it took a sneak attack FROM Japan to bring the US into the war — and, technically, we went to war against Germany only because Germany fulfilled its Axis obligations and declared war on the US first. So, Newt … what does the current US stance toward Iran (and N Korea) have to do with FDR again?
- Android Gets Hacked Again, Millions Affected Unknowingly, Advantage: Apple – It does look like Google will have to start doing reviews of submitted apps, as Apple does (though without Apple’s filtering thereby of apps it doesn’t want to see on iPhones).
- Saving the Tower of Pisa from collapse – An interesting tale.
- University Website – Heh. Yeah, pretty much.
- Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943 – Plog Photo Blog – These are remarkable.
- This Is a Gun [Guns] – Looks like something Francisco Scaramanga would keep on his coffee table …
- A Must-See Video of Microsoft’s Street Slide, Better Than Google Street View – Not quite all that revolutionary, but very nice. And not at all yet available on Bing Maps, but I’m sure the Google folk are already looking at how to do it, too (even assuming they were not already).
