Unblogged Bits (Sat. 31-Jul-10 0202)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. This gorgeous rail station looks like it belongs in some perfect utopian future – It certainly looks pretty. On the other hand — are they really going to plant all that grass around it? On the high plains? Rilly?
  2. Classic “Writer” Hat… – That’s it! That’s what I’ve been missing! Woot!
  3. Film a cop, face 16 years in jail – “This is an extreme example of the arrogance of power, in which a Maryland cop exercised bad judgment, was embarrassed when he was publicly exposed, and got his colleagues and prosecutors to exercise still worse judgment.” Which, naturally, is all the more proof why oversight is needed. We literally need to be able to Watch the Watchmen …
  4. Drink Up! The Stories Behind 11 Regional Soft Drinks – I’ve had a couple of these, but I have to confess to being curious …
  5. Major Corporations Are Downloading Those 100 Million Facebook Profiles off BitTorrent [BitTorrent] – Corporate America thanks you for using Facebook …

  1. The train station reminds me of a giant, white bow tie. And the grass does seem a little much. Maybe it’s really a drought tolerant ground cover?

  2. Honestly, I don’t see them doing the grass cover (buffalo grass, something like that, maaaaybe), but I’m sure whomever was doing the drawing wanted that nice green-white contrast.

I’m not over-wowed by the vision — it fits in with the terminal, but seems to obscure it at the same time. And by having the train station on the far side of the hotel, it does seem to maximize walking for folks going from train to plane (no sign in the other drawings of slidewalks).
