I get “news updates” from OneNewsNow, a right-wing news aggregator and screed publisher. It’s sometimes maddening, but often amusing, to see how they see the world through their conservative tunnel-vision.
Imagine, for example, the shock, shock I tell you, to find out that our Muslim President is spending YOUR TAX DOLLARS on building mosques around the world! Eek!
U.S. money for foreign mosques
Almost $6 million of U.S. taxpayers’ money is going to restore Muslim mosques and minarets around the world — and that’s money well spent, says Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Why, the outrage! The insanity! The crypto-Islamo-fascist conspiracy!
And when you actually click through to the story, you find the headline “U.S. funds restoration of global Islamic sites“!
Eek! They’re taking over the globe, and we’re paying for it!
And then you actually read the AP story …
WASHINGTON – The good will tour of the Middle East by the imam behind the proposed mosque near “Ground Zero” is just part of the U.S. government’s outreach to the Muslim world.
OMG! This is tied to the TERROR MOSQUE GUY!
This year, the Obama administration will spend nearly $6 million to restore 63 historic and cultural sites, including mosques and minarets, in 55 nations, according to State Department documents.

Wait, it’s for historic and cultural sites? It’s for restoration?
And it includes mosques and minarets? You mean, it’s not just for those?
That includes $76,000 for a 16th century mosque in China, $67,000 for a mosque in Pakistan, $77,000 to restore minarets in Nigeria and Mauritania, and $50,000 for an Islamic Monument in India.
Wait, what else does it include? Restoring terrorist training camps? I mean, it’s gotta be something really outrageous, right?
But that’s a fraction of the total in the 2010 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, which also will fund projects to restore Christian and Buddhist sites as well as museums, forts and palaces.
Wait, let me get this straight — this is a fund for cultural preservation, and of the $6 million, only a small fraction is going to mosques and minarets, and the rest is going to sites associated with other religions (including Christianity) and other secular cultural sites?
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the U.S. program to restore Islamic and other cultural sites abroad is money well spent.
Wait, Hillary wasn’t just talking about money spent on spreading Islamo-fascism, but the fund as a whole?
Gosh, it’s like the ONN folks intentionally distorted the whole story to draw attention to the one element they thought would cause people to have conniptions. But instead of taxpayer dollars going to restore foreign mosques in an effort to appease or promote terrorists who want to destroy us, to the applause of the Dreaded Hillary, we have taxpayer dollars going to restore foreign cultural sites, including mosques and churches, as a means to engender global goodwill and preserve our world heritage, to the applause of the Secretary of State.
It’s like a different story altogether. How … how … not unexpected.
