Unblogged Bits (Wed. 8-Sep-10 1130)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. A Pastor of Public Relations – NYTimes.com – “It’s a case point of this guy using the traditional news to have something go viral. … This is nothing more than a publicity stunt — someone waving their arms saying, ‘Hey, look at me! Look at me!’ And guess what, we did.” Unfortunately, it tends to be the loony fringe who get the most attention, not just in the US, but around the world.
  2. 40 Stunning Photos of Beautiful Clouds – It can be a beautiful world, sometimes.
  3. 5 Worries Parents Should Drop, And 5 They Shouldn’t : Shots – Health News Blog : NPR – “We’re teaching [kids] to be helpless. And because we’re so afraid of the world, we’re teaching them to be afraid of the world.” Fear is a good and reasonable thing. Fear of dangers that are highly unlikely, though, is corrosive, and, worse, distracts from basic dangers that are much more common (but that aren’t “The Top Story Tonight at Action Center 4!”).
  4. A Present – SMBC September 05, 2010 – This is only funny because of recent episodes with the cats.
  5. Gallup poll shock! – See, this is why I don’t pay a huge amount of attention to, or stress out over, these sorts of big polls, at least until things seriously stabilize and we’re a lot closer to The Day.
  6. Placebin DM Extra Strength – Ha!
  7. Hot Tub Planet – “The basic problem with the theory of intelligent design and it’s designer universe ilk is not that it contradicts evolution, but that everything is so obviously designed by a committee of idiots.”
  8. Correlations – SMBC September 08, 2010
  9. Then and now – TEH CUTE!

  1. I seen a number of comments on the net along the lines of ‘they burn flags (etc)’, and ‘what about the Christians who are persecuted in Muslim countries’, which while both true, is missing the point. The loonies won’t care, but what it will do is move the boundary, so those who otherwise may have not acted will be brought onto the loony side – all this man is doing is validating the cries of the loonies. Do you think he understands he is making the jihadists stronger?

    1. While I try to think the best of everyone, I think that Rev. Jones is either a publicity-grubbing sociopath who doesn’t care what the results are as long as he keeps getting in the news, or else, yes, he not only understands that, but is counting on it in order to provoke more conflict in which, ultimately, the Army of Jesus Christ will prevail.

In other words, he comes across as a loon.
